Choose a starting setup for your business

When creating an organisation or opening a new Demo Sandbox, select your Industry. If that industry has active business types, an optional Business type field appears. Choose the closest fit, or use General / Other for industry defaults.

What the selection changes

Active templates can suggest starter roles and organisation settings. Hospitality includes Restaurant, Café, Pub / Bar, Hotel / Accommodation and Catering. Construction includes Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, General Building and Multiple Trades. Available choices are managed by Super Admin. Demo business types also provide fictional sample locations and roles. Real organisations create their own locations.

Your selected defaults are saved with the registration before payment or coupon activation. Later template edits do not rewrite your accepted setup. You can customise organisation settings and roles afterwards. Business type does not determine award coverage or select pay rules.

Manage business types in Super Admin

  1. Open Super Admin → Industry Templates and find the parent industry.
  2. Expand Business types & history and select an existing business type or + Add business type.
  3. Enter its name and description. Settings inherit the parent unless explicitly Enabled or Disabled. Uncheck inherited starter roles to exclude them, or add role names and colours. Fictional demo location names affect sandbox examples only.
  4. Review the new organisation preview and save. If another administrator changed the same business type, reload the list and review the current version before saving again; your draft remains visible.

Uncheck Available for new organisations and demos and save to archive a business type. It disappears from future setup choices while existing organisations and template history are retained. Making the parent industry inactive also removes its business types from future setup. General industry choices can remain available using standard defaults.

Existing organisations and optional features

Industry and business type changes on an existing organisation change classification only. They do not reapply template settings, replace roles, select pay rules or activate optional modules. Super Admin can manage classification from Organisations or Org Permissions. Organisation Settings displays the saved classification.

Optional modules retain their individual organisation permissions and activation requirements. Explicit organisation OFF choices are preserved. Business type template changes apply to future setup, not existing accounts.

Review demo activity

The Demo Sandboxes page in Super Admin retains the selected industry and business type alongside recorded activity. The original selection remains available after the sandbox is deleted or converted. Older demos may not have this information.
